Wearing polish on your natural nails chip free can virtually be impossible. However, if you follow a few simple steps, you can get at least 7 days (1 week) of long-lasting wear with no chips.
Steps:
- Make sure to use a good brand of polish that doesn’t have a reputation for chipping easily. For example, Avon’s brand of polish has a bad reputation of chipping within 2 days. You can easily find out this information by reading customer reviews.
- Use a base coat. Not only can a base coat protect your nails from stains, but they can also help the polish stick to your nail longer. CND Sticky base coat, CND Toughen Up base coat, OPI Nail Envy, OPI Start to Finish, OPI Chip Skip, and Orly Bonder are all great brands to use.
- Apply two thin coats of polish on top of base coat. If polish still seems sheer or opaque after 2 coats, add a third thin one.
- Use a great top coat such as Seche Vite Quick Dry top coat, OPI Start to Finish, CND Super Shiney top coat.
- When applying the top coat start by using the nail brush horizontally across the top of the nail tip. Then evenly polish over the nail. By polishing the tip first, you’re able to make sure there’s an even application with no smudges.
