Top 10 Things to Look for in your Perfect Salon!

Finding the right salon for you is not as simple as walking into the first one you see. A salon is a really important thing to consider.

1. Service

You should feel taken care of when you walk into a salon. The people should be nice or kind to you and should answer all of your questions. You want the people in a salon to not only be nice to you but also be clear about their services, products and pricing.

2. Attention

How long do you have to wait when you walk into the salon? Do you feel as if the staff value you and pay attention to you?

3. Product

How do you look when you leave the salon? You aren’t paying for sub par work. You want to look good when you leave this place. So, the final product matters as much as how you were treated at the salon.

4. Time
When you leave a salon, you should feel as if the time spent there was well worth it. You should leave feeling refreshed and beautiful.

5. Price

The age old saying is true: you get what you pay for. Your haircut, tan or nails should be worth whatever you paid for them. If you feel as if your cut is not to your liking, the salon should do everything in their power to change this.

6. Cleanliness

The salon should look clean and presentable when you walk in. You should not feel as if you need a gas mask or as if you need to shower if you touch the furniture or equipment in the salon. The salon’s floors are usually the best bet when it comes to ascertaining cleanliness.

7. Location

The location of the salon does not have to be super close to your home but you should feel safe when you go to it, and you shouldn't have to travel more than two hours to find a salon.

8. Loyalty

Do you have a last minute appointment to make? Will they fit you in if you do? If you become a regular for a salon, you should feel as if your loyalty will be returned when it comes to last minute emergencies.

9. Referrals

If someone you trust recommends a certain salon, take heed. Friends, family members and coworkers are excellent sources when it comes time to choose the right salon for you and your needs.

10. Observation

Feel free to check out the salon before investing in any of its services. You should feel comfortable asking for a consultation and to come in and ask questions about the salon’s prices, service and history

Charlotte NC Fashion Week 2008

MyPerfectSalon.com was “on the scene” at the 2008 Fashion Week held in Charlotte, NC (CNCFW). The first annual event was held at The Blake Hotel in uptown. Mr. Anthony Simons, Director of CNCFW, stated that it has been a “very exciting and rewarding experience” and that “the existence of an organized multi-cultural and multi-ethnic event for local designers, models, make-up artists, hair stylists and others in the industry is not often seen.”
We spoke with celebrity host, Carmen Webber, from Season 4 of Project Runway. She was very happy to be back in her hometown of Charlotte, NC hosting this event and lecturing to future designers and entrepreneurs. During her workshop, she shared valuable knowledge that she has acquired over the past 7 years, through trial and error, in the fashion industry.
Charlotte Fashion Week featured numerous workshops, designers, and runway presentations. There was also a silent auction to benefit International House and Crisis Assistance Ministry. It was a spectacular event and we look forward to next year.

BIO

A North Carolina native, Carmen has had a love for fashion since a young age. She was modeling in trunk shows for Alexander Julian, DKNY and Anne Klein at 16. In high school, she began taking fashion merchandising courses through the DECCA Club and competed in a regional contest for fashion marketing and branding. In 1989 she began studying architecture at Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), but later went on to double major in fashion design and illustration. Completing a four-year program at SCAD, she graduated cum laude and was named as top fashion designer of her class.

After graduation, Carmen moved to Paris where she interned for Christope LeMaire, who studied under Christian LaCroix and is now the head designer for Lacoste. She also worked as a sales associate at one of Paco Rabanne's first ready-to-wear boutiques in Paris. Carmen showcased her first ready-to-wear collection at La Couple Jazz Club in Paris in 1996. After four years in Paris, Carmen moved to the "big apple" to launch her Harlem-based clothing line in the fashion capital.

In the summer of 2001, Carmen launched the "Sistahs of Harlem" clothing line with partner Carmia Marshall, a wardrobe stylist in the film and television industry. The clothing line started in humble street fairs where she sold handbags and deconstructed T-shirts. Marshall and Carmen also co-wrote "T-Shirt Makeovers: 20 Transformations For Fabulous Fashion," a do-it-yourself book.

Carmen’s next book, Denim Mania: 25 Stylish Ways to Transform Your Jeans, will be out early next year from St. Martin’s Press
